I hate periods, seriously I hate the irritation, mood swings, worrying about sanitary napkins, embarrassment because of stain and cramps. Dealing with periods can be easy without cramps. Each cramp is like someone is washing clothes in my uterus. I wish I was a boy. I know what you all are thinking, We all have been there when this thought pops up in our mind. Here are some amazing, useful things you can try during periods to deal with cramps.
When we girls go through our periods or more appropriately called monthly fever, cramps make it even more difficult to handle it. Let’s talk about how to get rid of this pain.
Warm Bath and Hot Water bag
Hot steamy bath will help in alleviate cramps and rejuvenate yourself so that you feel fresh and relaxed. My perfect partner during cramps is my hot water bag. Put hot water bag on your belly, it helps in normal period flow and gives you relaxed feeling as well.
Whenever you are dealing with severe period pain try massaging your lower back and abdomen by your mother or friend or sister. Massage relaxes the muscles contracting and causes pain, you can feel the immediate difference in pain in just 5 minutes of massage.
Rest and sleep
Proper rest when needed and adequate sleep is very important. When you are tired or didn’t sleep well, the chances of menstrual cramps increases. We have right to ask for a day off from our daily life to get some rest and sleep.

Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol during the menstrual cycle. These things can affect hormones and can lead to irregular periods or more menstrual cramps. I know it’s frustrating to face these problems so avoid intake of this stuff.
It’s not just an excuse to have a chocolate. Having chocolate, brownie or something sweet can change your emotions and also make you forget about your pain. Psychological factors such as emotional stress do increase the likelihood of having cramps. Chocolate helps in releasing stress and yummy way to get rid of the pain.
According to studies, women who exercise regularly often have less menstrual pain. Their muscles are strong and active and can bear pain easily. So to prevent cramps, make exercise a part of your weekly routine.
Usually, you hear your mom or grandparents saying that today’s generation can’t take the pain and are comparatively less strong and active. Well, there is a massive change in food habits of today’s generation and yes we have weaker bones and muscles. To fight pain our muscles and bones should be strong enough. Try adding milk or more protein to your diet. Recommend to take supplements like Vitamin E, thiamine, omega-3, Vitamin D. Also avoids food that contains caffeine and salt.
Yoga and meditation give you positive and relaxed vibes. Doing yoga and meditation during menstrual cycle decreases the chances of having severe cramps.
Personally, I avoid taking painkillers during periods and try to fight with the help of natural remedies.
